Permaculture Data was created by N.L. Gist, who brings twenty years of cross-disciplinary study and hands-on experience spanning software engineering, permaculture, sustainable construction, and homesteading. Before earning his Permaculture Design Certificate from Geoff Lawton in 2017, Gist wrote for the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia. He also designed and built a substantial earthbag and Earthship-inspired structure in the Ozarks.

The platform began as a utility for his own land. It remains a working tool—used to think and strategize deeply about permaculture design.
