Apple
Malus domestica
Apple is a small to medium deciduous fruit tree grown for its familiar sweet-tart fruit, eaten fresh, cooked or dried, with an edible oil pressed from the seed. It flowers in spring on short spurs and typically needs a period of winter chill before it will bloom and set fruit well. Most cultivars are propagated by grafting onto a rootstock that also controls the tree's eventual size.
