Banana Passionfruit

Passiflora tarminiana

Banana Passionfruit is a fast-climbing vine that produces a deep yellow to orange fruit with sweet aromatic pulp, eaten raw or turned into ice cream, fruit salad, jelly and drinks. It comes from cool mountain forest in the tropical Andes rather than the lowlands, so it needs a climate that stays mild and even - never freezing, never fiercely hot. Where that climate exists it can become a serious problem: escaped vines have climbed into the tree canopy and smothered native forest, and it is a declared noxious weed in Hawaii and New Zealand.
