Cenizo

Leucophyllum frutescens

Cenizo is a rounded evergreen shrub of limestone hillsides, ravines and dry plains across the Rio Grande Plain and Edwards Plateau of Texas into northern Mexico, usually growing two to eight feet tall and four to six feet wide with soft gray-green leaves. Small violet, purple, pink or white flowers open in flushes through the warm months, most heavily right after a rain, giving it the nickname barometer bush. Butterflies and other pollinators visit the flowers, and the dense growth makes it a durable hedge or screen in low-water plantings.
