Cloudberry
Rubus chamaemorus
Cloudberry is a dwarf bramble of Arctic and boreal peat bogs and tundra, spreading by rhizome into low mats. It needs a male and a female plant nearby to set its amber, sour, vitamin-C-rich fruit at all, and it can only grow in permanently wet acid peat and full sun - no shade, no dry ground, no substitute. Its native range barely reaches the northern tier of the Lower 48, and it stays that far north because it cannot take a long warm summer.
