Drummond Phlox is a low, bushy annual wildflower that blankets open ground in a carpet of five-petaled, trumpet-shaped blooms from spring into early summer. Sticky, hairy foliage covers slender branching stems rarely more than a foot tall, and the flowers - white, red, pink, purple or peach, often with a contrasting eye - draw bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, with pipevine swallowtails the primary pollinator. It grows quickly from seed in well-drained, sandy to clay ground and reseeds itself readily where left undisturbed.
