Goldmoss Stonecrop is a low, mat-forming succulent with tiny star-shaped yellow flowers from early to late summer, and it tolerates salt, foot traffic and poor rocky soil better than almost anything else in this collection - useful anywhere salt concentrates, such as around a water-softener discharge or the end of a greywater run. In hot, humid summers it is vulnerable to a fungal blight that can wipe out a large, continuous planting almost overnight, so it holds up far better broken into small patches on sharp-draining, well-ventilated ground than spread across open, moisture-holding soil. Its leaves are edible in small amounts - bitter and acrid enough that the plant is sometimes called biting stonecrop - and its sap can blister skin on bulk handling, so gloves are worth using.
