Jostaberry

Jostaberry is a garden hybrid of blackcurrant and gooseberry with no wild range of its own, and since seed will not come true, it is grown from cuttings. The fruit tastes closer to gooseberry while under-ripe and closer to blackcurrant once fully ripe, and it is rich in vitamin C, good raw or cooked into pies and jams. It is thornless, vigorous, resists several diseases that trouble its parent species, and stays put on its own since it neither suckers nor self-sows.
