Kenaf
Hibiscus cannabinus
Kenaf is a fast-growing woody-based annual hibiscus grown worldwide for the strong bast fibre in its stem, a coarser substitute for jute used in rope, cordage, canvas, sacking and paper pulp. Its young leaves, flowers, seeds and oil-pressed seed are all edible, and its deep taproot and dense single-season growth make it useful as a summer cover crop and as an accumulator of selenium and boron from the soil.
