Rabbiteye Blueberry

Rabbiteye blueberry is the blueberry that actually crops through long, hot, humid summers - the only type commercially grown across regions where neither lowbush nor highbush blueberries succeed. It needs strongly acid, lime-free ground and a second rabbiteye cultivar flowering nearby, since it is not self-fertile and depends on insect cross-pollination. On alkaline or calcareous soil it can still be grown in a container or a replaced acidified bed, watered with acid or acidified irrigation, since ordinary hard water pushes the root zone alkaline and brings on chlorosis.
