Skeleton Leaf Goldeneye is a rounded, much-branched desert shrub with fine, thread-like aromatic leaves and golden yellow daisy flowers that peak heavy in fall. Bees, butterflies and moths feed on its nectar, and the seedheads that follow feed and shelter birds through winter. It needs sharp drainage and full sun, tolerates extreme heat and drought, and dies back to the crown where winters get cold rather than staying evergreen. Deer mostly leave it alone because of the aromatic oils in the leaves, and it thickens a planting on its own as the ripe seed pods shatter and scatter.
