Splitbeard Bluestem
Andropogon ternarius
Splitbeard bluestem is a warm-season perennial bunchgrass native to the southeastern United States, grown for narrow blue-green foliage that turns copper and bronze in autumn and fluffy silvery-white seed heads that persist into winter. It grows in dry, lean, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade and tolerates drought once established. The seed feeds birds and small mammals through winter, and the foliage supplies nesting material for native bees.
