Waxyleaf Privet

Waxyleaf Privet is a dense, rounded semi-evergreen to evergreen shrub native to China, grown widely as a hedge and screening plant and reaching eight to thirteen feet tall and wide if left unpruned. Fragrant creamy white flowers cluster along the branches in mid to late summer, followed by small dark berries that birds readily disperse. It tolerates a wide range of soil pH and drought once established, needs well-drained ground, and spreads readily by both root sprouts and bird-carried seed, capable of forming a dense monoculture in forest understory if left unmanaged.
