Trifolium alexandrinum
Berseem Clover is a cool-season nitrogen-fixing forage legume for alkaline, poorly drained ground, cut 4-6 times a season for up to 4 tons of forage per acre and unique among the clovers researched here for causing no reported bloat. It tolerates pH 6.5-8.5 and short waterlogging better than alfalfa, but ordinary seed dies after a few days below 20 F, so only a cold-tolerant cultivar such as Bigbee or Frosty survives a hard freeze.
