Bottlebrush sedge is a clump-forming, grass-like perennial of wet meadows, marshes, fens and pond and stream margins across most of North America, growing knee-high with narrow arching leaves and cylindrical, bristly greenish seed heads in early summer that give the plant its common name. It tolerates standing water and periodic flooding, stabilising wet and saturated ground, and its seed feeds waterfowl and other birds while its foliage supports moth, skipper and grasshopper larvae.
