Bacopa monnieri

Brahmi is a low, fast-spreading creeping perennial of wet ground and shallow water across warm temperate and tropical regions worldwide, rooting at every stem node to form a dense mat about 30 cm tall. It needs full sun to light shade and a consistently wet to moist soil - it tolerates saline and even brackish conditions and is a popular aquarium plant - and its succulent leaves are edible raw or cooked. It is best known as one of the most studied nootropic herbs, taken to support memory and calm anxiety, but it inhibits several liver drug-metabolising enzymes and can interact with other medications, and the most common side effect even on its own is gastrointestinal upset.
