Japanese Staunton Vine is a broadleaf evergreen climber from warm-temperate Japanese woodland. Its egg-shaped fruit is sweet, watery and honey-flavored, and eaten fresh as a dessert in Japan. Fruiting needs both a male and a female plant growing nearby, though an isolated female occasionally sets fruit alone. It is often sold under the name chocolate vine, a name that actually belongs to a different, unrelated vine with similar fruit.
