Hemp

Cannabis sativa

Hemp is a fast-growing annual reaching about 2.5 m tall grown for its fiber its oil-rich edible seed and a range of medicinal compounds. It wants full sun and rich moist loamy soil tolerating a wide pH range from strongly acid to alkaline and grows vigorously enough to crowd out weeds on its own. It self-sows readily enough to be listed as a noxious weed in some jurisdictions and cultivation is separately regulated by law in many places depending on the variety's psychoactive compound content - a legal constraint distinct from anything about its growing conditions.
