Intermediate Wheatgrass

Intermediate Wheatgrass is a long-lived cool-season pasture grass that livestock and wildlife alike graze readily through most of the year, and its deep root system builds soil while stabilizing ditchbanks, roadsides and other disturbed ground. It is also being domesticated as a perennial grain crop, harvested for several years running before the field needs replanting, with flour higher in protein and calcium than conventional wheat. Established stands can live for fifty years or more and spread only slowly by short rhizomes, so on ground that suits it well it can settle in as a long-term planting rather than something managed year to year.
