Prairie Verbena
Verbena bipinnatifida
Prairie Verbena is a low, sprawling perennial wildflower that forms a spreading mat of finely divided, gray-green foliage rarely more than a foot and a half tall. Rounded clusters of purple, pink or lavender flowers bloom in flushes from early spring through fall, drawing butterflies and other pollinators to open grassland and disturbed ground. It tolerates poor, rocky, alkaline soils and short dry spells once established, and spreads readily by self-sown seed where conditions suit it.
