Snapdragon Vine
Maurandella antirrhiniflora
A delicate, herbaceous climbing vine with slender wiry stems and small triangular, arrow-shaped leaves that grip a trellis, fence or shrub by twining leaf stalks. Loose clusters of tubular rose-purple, snapdragon-like flowers open from spring through fall and draw butterflies and hummingbirds, and it serves as a larval host for the Common Buckeye butterfly. Growth dies back to the ground each winter and returns from the root the following season, giving it a light, airy presence rather than dense coverage.
