Strawberry Clover is a perennial nitrogen-fixing ground cover for wet, saline or alkaline ground the other clovers in this group cannot take - USDA NRCS calls it the most salt-tolerant legume, tolerating pH 5.3-8.2, flooding up to two months and salinity to 3 percent. It forms a dense, traffic-tolerant mat by rooting at the stolon nodes, suiting pond and swale margins, greywater cell edges, and orchard or vineyard understory rather than hay. It causes bloat and raises urinary calculi risk in sheep, so keep grass in the sward and never graze a pure stand.
