Texas Skullcap is a small, low-branching annual wildflower in the mint family that forms a tidy, mounding clump rarely taller than a foot. Two-lipped, bluish-purple flowers crowded along the upper stems open in early spring and are readily visited by bees. Native to open prairies, savannas and woodland edges on limestone-derived and other well-drained ground, it tolerates heat and drought and completes its life cycle before summer, reseeding for the following year.
