Texas Star Hibiscus
Hibiscus coccineus
Texas Star Hibiscus, also called Scarlet Rosemallow, is a tall, clump-forming herbaceous perennial in the mallow family that dies back to the ground each winter and regrows quickly once the soil warms. Large, star-shaped, scarlet-red flowers over 6 inches across open through mid to late summer above deeply lobed, palm-shaped leaves, drawing hummingbirds, pollinators and butterflies. It is a wetland plant at heart, wanting consistently moist to occasionally wet ground in full sun to partial shade.
