Widows Tears
Commelina erecta
Widow's Tears is a warm-season perennial wildflower with jointed stems that start upright and lengthen into a sprawling habit. Each flower opens for a single day, showing two large sky-blue petals above one small white petal, with blooms appearing from spring into fall. It grows readily in sandy or clay soils and dry conditions, persisting by tubers as well as self-sown seed, and its foliage and seed feed deer, quail and doves.
