Eve's Necklace

Eve's Necklace is a small, spineless deciduous tree of limestone country, named for the long black seed pods that hang like strings of beads through fall and winter. Its wisteria-like sprays of fragrant pink flowers bloom for about two weeks in early spring and draw pollinators before the tree fully leafs out. It tolerates thin, well-drained limestone soil and long dry spells once established, but declines where water sits around its roots, and its seeds are mildly toxic if eaten.
