Texas Pistache
Pistacia mexicana
Texas Pistache is a large, airy, rounded evergreen shrub or multi-trunked small tree with glossy, pinnately compound leaves that emerge reddish in spring before turning dark green. Clusters of small white flowers bloom from spring into summer, followed by red fruit that darkens to near-black as it dries and draws birds. It thrives in full sun on dry, well-drained, alkaline ground and is highly drought tolerant and deer resistant once established.
